DESCRIPTION:<p>This colloquium will explore the contribution of the humanities and the&nbsp\;social sciences to the education of medical ethics and bioethics to health&nbsp\;professionals\, biomedical researchers\, and the public. The core premise of&nbsp\;this event is that health is an interdisciplinary phenomenon\, and that&nbsp\;contemporary issues related to healthcare\, health policy and medical ethics&nbsp\;are best addressed with an interdisciplinary approach. The colloquium will&nbsp\;be structured around four key themes:</p>\n<ol>\n<li>Methods of inquiry into bioethics education: an exploration of the&nbsp\;different styles of bioethics\, different approaches to the study of&nbsp\;bioethical phenomena\, and the role of the humanities\, history and the social&nbsp\;sciences in the context of bioethics education.</li>\n<li>Ethics\, education and the medical researcher: an exploration of how&nbsp\;biomedical researchers recognize and engage with ethical issues\, and&nbsp\;possible educational interventions for biomedical scientists.</li>\n<li>Curricular and structural processes in the ethics education of&nbsp\;clinicians: this theme will address the design of curricula and&nbsp\;implementation of ethics education by institutions\, and explore the formal&nbsp\;and informal ways in which clinicians access and implement ethics education.</li>\n<li>Ethics and public education: An exploration of the ways in which&nbsp\;bioethics influences public policy\, journalism\, and the public media.</li>\n</ol>\n<p>This event will bring together delegates from a range of academic and&nbsp\;disciplinary backgrounds to foster an interdisciplinary sensibility towards&nbsp\;healthcare and bioethics. We will welcome up to 50 delegates from&nbsp\;philosophy\, law\, the social sciences\, the humanities\, all clinical&nbsp\;disciplines and healthcare sciences. Because of limited numbers\, we will&nbsp\;give priority to delegates submitting an abstract.</p>\n<p>If you wish to present a conference paper or poster at this event\, please&nbsp\;submit an abstract (max 2000 characters) online by 10 August. Oral&nbsp\;presentations are strictly limited to 15 minutes. Poster size is A1.&nbsp\;Abstracts can be submitted via the conference website.<br><br>Successful applicants will be notified by 17 August and will be required to&nbsp\;confirm their attendance by registering via the Cumberland Lodge website&nbsp\;within two weeks.</p>\n<p>The colloquium registration fee is &pound\;45 inclusive of public lecture\,&nbsp\;refreshments\, lunch and dinner.
