DESCRIPTION:<p>Organised together with the Ra&uacute\;l Roa Garc&iacute\;a Higher Institute of International&nbsp\;Relations.<br><br>The New Political Science is being developed by Cuban and&nbsp\;international professors affiliated with the Division of&nbsp\;Philosophy and History of the University of Havana and&nbsp\;with Dr. Thal&iacute\;a Fung\, Honorary Chair\, &ldquo\;Political Science&nbsp\;from the South.&rdquo\; &nbsp\;It is a transdisciplinary initiative\,&nbsp\;including scholars in the disciplines of political&nbsp\;science\, economics\, history\, philosophy\, anthropology\, and&nbsp\;sociology. It seeks to develop an analysis of&nbsp\;international dynamics and global issues from the&nbsp\;perspective of the global South or the Third World. &nbsp\;It&nbsp\;endeavors to develop insights that are relevant to public&nbsp\;policies and political strategies of the nations and&nbsp\;social movements of the South.<br><br>During the event\, the International&nbsp\;Day of Philosophy (November 16) will be celebrated in the&nbsp\;Aula Magna of the University of Havana.</p>\n<p>Papers can be presented in English or Spanish. Faculty of&nbsp\;the English department of the Division of Modern Foreign&nbsp\;Languages of the University of Havana will provide&nbsp\;simultaneous translations.<br><br>Paper proposals (in English or Spanish)\, including a paper&nbsp\;title and a summary of 250 words or less\, should be sent&nbsp\;by October 15\, 2012\, to Charles McKelvey&nbsp\;(cemck@terra.com).<br><br>Papers on the following themes can be included in the&nbsp\;International Conference on &ldquo\;New Political Science&rdquo\;:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>The purpose\, methods\, and concepts of the new&nbsp\;political science (social science\, history\, and&nbsp\;philosophy) from the perspective of the South or the Third&nbsp\;World\; its role in the construction of a new society.</li>\n<li>Political culture and political socialization in&nbsp\;the period of transition to socialism.</li>\n<li>Conflict resolution: the significance of&nbsp\;negotiation in conflicts among the countries of the South.</li>\n<li>International dynamics and contemporary global&nbsp\;issues.</li>\n<li>Domestic policy and foreign policy.</li>\n<li>The political thought of Mao Tse Tung.</li>\n<li>The political thought of Ho Chi Minh and the Doi&nbsp\;Moi policy of Vietnam.</li>\n<li>The contributions of the Bolivarian revolution to&nbsp\;the new political science from the South</li>\n<li>The contributions of Evo Morales\, Hugo Ch&aacute\;vez\, and&nbsp\;Rafael Correa to contemporary political theory</li>\n<li>The contributions of the Cuban Revolution to the&nbsp\;new political science from the South&nbsp\;Jos&eacute\; Mart&iacute\; and the new political science from the South.</li>\n<li>The relation between philosophy and political&nbsp\;science\; between philosophy and social science.</li>\n<li>Corruption: History and mechanisms.</li>\n<li>Papers on other relevant themes will be&nbsp\;considered.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The registration fee is 100 Cuban Convertible Pesos&nbsp\;(approximately equivalent to 120 U.S. dollars). The fee&nbsp\;for students is 50 Cuban Convertible Pesos.</p>\n<p>Paper proposals for the International Colloquium on &ldquo\;The&nbsp\;role of philosophy and political science in the cultural&nbsp\;heritage of the countries of the American Mediterranean&rdquo\;&nbsp\;can include the following themes:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Problems of the philosophy of education and its&nbsp\;present challenges.</li>\n<li>Epistemology: the significance of atomic particles&nbsp\;for scientific and philosophical knowledge.</li>\n<li>The biometric revolution.</li>\n<li>Environmental problems and their philosophical&nbsp\;implications.</li>\n<li>Bioethics and the relation between bioethics and&nbsp\;philosophy. &nbsp\;The meaning of transhumanism.</li>\n<li>Political philosophy and its role in current&nbsp\;scientific knowledge.</li>\n<li>The Mart&iacute\;an philosophy as an inclusive philosophy.</li>\n<li>Papers on other relevant themes will be&nbsp\;considered.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The registration fee is 100 Cuban Convertible Pesos&nbsp\;(approximately equivalent to 120 U.S. dollars). The fee&nbsp\;for students is 50 Cuban Convertible Pesos.</p>\n<p>Participants will have the option of participating in one&nbsp\;of three pre-conference workshops to be held on November&nbsp\;12 and November 13. &nbsp\;The workshops will be on the&nbsp\;following themes:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Political science from the South and Western&nbsp\;political science: Complementary or alternative?</li>\n<li>Bioethics and its relation to philosophy.</li>\n<li>Methods of theory construction.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The workshop will be conducted by specialists with&nbsp\;numerous publications on the themes. &nbsp\;Books on related&nbsp\;themes also will be available.<br><br>The registration fee for one of the workshops is 25 Cuban&nbsp\;Convertible Pesos.<br><br>All persons interested in the conferences and/or workshops&nbsp\;should contact Charles McKelvey at:&nbsp\;cemck@terra.com.&nbsp\;Reservations for lodging in Havana and for air travel to&nbsp\;Cuba can be made through Global Learning.
