Workshop on Innovation and Scientific Practice

Innovation plays a crucial role in the evolution of scientific practices, and it does it in several ways. While technical innovation has had a clear and constant impact on the development of scientific theories during the last centuries, many less-obvious forms of theoretical advance lend themselves to be analyzed through the concept of innovation, which itself has been subject to renewed philosophical exploration in the last decades. The workshop will address issues related to the bidirectional relation between technological and scientific advance, the internal and external mechanisms by which scientific practices become innovative, and the models of rationality and progress best suited to describe and explain the phenomenon of innovation in scientific practice.

We welcome poster submissions, especially by graduate and undergraduate students. Topics can include, but are not limited to: the notion of theoretical innovation, the import of technological innovation to scientific practice, scientific innovation and public understanding, the history of scientific innovation.

A committee of the invited speakers and selected participants in the symposia will select the best poster during the conference. Researchers interested in submitting a poster presentation should send an anonymized abstract of no more than 1.000 words to [email protected], in .doc or .pdf format, including, in the body of the email, author’s name, institutional affiliation and e-mail address. The abstracts will be blindly reviewed by experts designated by the organizing committee.
