Perspectives on the First Person Pronoun "I": Looking at Metaphysics, Linguistics and Neuroscience.

This conference is an international collaboration between experts from the UK, Europe and the USA. It is an interdisciplinary conference that focuses exclusively on the nature of the first person pronoun “I”. Participation in this interdisciplinary conference is not limited to established scholars. Rather it is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as other interested academic professionals in several different disciplines. 

Although the issue of the first person perspective is getting wide attention in diverse academic disciplines such as philosophy, linguistics, cognitive neuroscience, etc., it is not yet common to see experts in these disciplines coming together to share their expertise with the wider academic community. So this conference brings together a group of experts who are sympathetic to an interdisciplinary research on the nature of the first person perspective. In light of this, the main aim of this conference is to create a platform for an interdisciplinary dialogue among experts with different backgrounds, who are actively engaged in the investigation of the first person perspective. This interdisciplinary conference, by pulling together philosophy, linguistics and neuroscience, will show how the issue of the first person perspective can be approached in an integrated way.

This conference is dedicated to the memory of Professor E.J. Lowe.

There will be a workshop fee of £10 to cover provided refreshments (tea/coffee) as well as lunch. Alternatively, attendees can also pay the fee on the day whilst registering.
