CFP: Epistemic and Practical Normativity: Substantive Connections

Philosophy at Southampton will host the first workshop of the AHRC-funded ‘Normativity: Epistemic and Practical’ project on Friday the 13th of June.

The workshop will focus on the issues of whether/how practical considerations bear on what one ought to believe, and whether/how epistemic considerations bear on how one ought to act.

Questions include, though are not limited to:

• Do the sorts of considerations which provide reasons for action also provide reasons for belief?
• Does the practical importance of what you believe bear on what you should or may believe? 
• Is it permissible to have a belief that one ought not to act on?
• Does what one ought to do depend on the facts of one’s situation or on the evidence?
