The aim of this conference is to investigate the ancient conception of ethics as a practice of self-cultivation and its revival in modern European philosophy. The conference focuses specifically on Hellenistic ethics and its influence on European philosophers from Nietzsche to Foucault. The 2.5 day program will include a workshop on Stoic and Epicurean ethics, papers by invited specialists in ancient and modern European philosophy, and presentations selected from an open call for abstracts.
