The journal of Analytic Teaching and Philosophical Praxis (AT&PP) seeks article submissions that explore ways in which educational endeavors are complemented by social groups and gatherings, such as book clubs and café discussions, and the role that various forms of social media have played throughout history in solidifying this connection. Cafés, and more recently the internet, are among the many venues that bring together informal education and community building. Contributors are encouraged to consider the many important ways that social media, past or present, have impacted the nature of communities of inquiry specifically, and the character of education in general.
This special issue of Analytic Teaching and Philosophical Praxis will be anchored by two previously published articles on the topic, one co-written by Richard Anthony and Steve Williams “From the Republic of Letters to the Empire of E-mail,” (AT&PP Vol. 21) http://www.viterbo.edu/analytic/vol.%2023%20no.%201/from%20the%20republic%20of%20letters%20to%20the%20empire.pdfand the other by Tom Standage, digital editor of The Economist, “The Internet in a Cup,” (Dec, 2003) http://www.economist.com/node/2281736. Contributors are encouraged to consult either of these two articles for a helpful overview and introduction to the topic.
Submissions should follow a standardized reference format (Chicago manual of style- format references as endnotes or APA or MLA). Articles should be approximately 4000-8000 words and include an abstract of the paper between 100-250 words. Articles should be emailed as a word document or RTF, and prepared for ‘blind-review’ (with author’s name, contact information, and institutional affiliation, on a separate page).
