CALL FOR PAPERS

Paper submissions are invited for the 60th annual meeting of the Florida Philosophical Association, to be held November 14–15, 2014, in Tampa, hosted by the University of South Florida. The conference web-site is available here: www.phil.ufl.edu/fpa/meeting/2014/.

1. Regular Submissions
Submission deadline:  August 20, 2014
i. Papers in all areas of philosophy are welcome.
ii. All papers are to be prepared for anonymous review.
iii. Paper length: Papers submitted for inclusion in the regular program must be limited to a reading time of 30 minutes (approximately 12 double-spaced pages).  Presentation time for the regular program is 45 minutes (30 minutes reading time and 15 minutes discussion).
iv. Abstract:  Also include an abstract of no more than 150 words with your paper.
v. Include a cover sheet with:
1. Your name, e-mail address, affiliation, contact info, and paper title.
2. On the cover sheet, also indicate whether you wish to have your paper considered for publication in the Florida Philosophical Review and/or for the graduate student paper award as indicated below.
vi. Electronic submissions ONLY.  Papers in .pdf are preferred.  Send submissions to the Program Coordinator at: [email protected]
1. Indicate “FPA Submission” in the subject line and attach the following:
a. Attachment 1:  the paper (with title),
b. Attachment 2:  the cover sheet,
c. Attachment 3:  the abstract,
d. Please also paste the details from the cover sheet into the body of the e-mail.
2. If you cannot send your submission electronically, postal paper submissions may be sent, with a cover sheet, to:

2.  Graduate Paper Awards Competition
a. Submission deadline: August 20, 2014
b. Graduate students submitting papers for the regular program may also elect to have their papers considered for the Outstanding Graduate Paper Award, and should indicate that this is the case on the cover page. The winning paper will be published in Florida Philosophical Review and the author receives a monetary award. Only students at Florida colleges and universities are eligible for this competition.

3. Undergraduate Paper Awards Competition
a. Submission Deadline: September 10, 2014 (Note that the submission deadline for the undergraduate award competition is later than the general deadline for paper submissions.)
b. Undergraduate students may submit papers for special award consideration. Eligible undergraduates should also indicate for which of the following award competitions they are submitting a paper:
i. The Gerritt and Edith Schipper Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Philosophy Paper in a Four-Year College or University, or
ii. The Outstanding Undergraduate Paper in a Two-Year College.
c. Papers may be any length, but 15 double-spaced pages are recommended. Winning papers will be published in Florida Philosophical Review and the author will receive a monetary award. Only students at Florida colleges and universities are eligible.
d. Also include an abstract of no more than 150 words with your paper submission.

4. Possible symposium
There is the possibility of having an additional symposium, and your suggestions are welcome. Please bear in mind, however, that should your suggestion be adopted, you may well be asked to chair the session, and play a role in refereeing the invited abstracts.
