Details

In order to promote academic research and the exchange of value
studies, to improve the capability of running international
conferences, to broaden students' academic vision, to build a
platform for the growth of young teachers, Marxism College, Liaoning
University plans to hold an International Symposium on “Conflict and
Consensus of Values in the Context of Cultural Diversity,” December
22-23, 2014.

Conference Background

In the global age, different cultures are blending with and affecting
one another, which entails a collision and integration of values.
Value is not only a core factor to a country’s concept of national
governance and the goals of its development; it is also a significant
symbol of the country. Therefore, it is important to maintain and
construct a country’s values. But can the values of different
countries and nations achieve mutual respect based on equality? How
to build consensus and to combine different values? To answer these
questions, we need an international perspective and an open dialogue
between scholars who come from different culture backgrounds. In
addition, with the increasing global crisis, we need to build a new
common ethical value of humanity based on solicitude for the destiny
of the wholehumankind. The new common ethical value can only be
formed by overcoming arrogance and the sense ofsuperiority regarding
one’s own culture and finding the internal points of correspondence
points of different cultures. Global governance in the face of global
crisis requires this.

Objectives of this conference

Our goal is to discuss the coexistence of values from different
cultural backgrounds, to provide a rational understanding and
reference for the Chinese core value construction, to promote
academic exchange and cooperation, to absorb the latest research
achievements on value studies in both domestic and international
countries, to enhance the ability of teaching and education and to
raise the academic level and ability of young teachers in scientific
research and development.
