Workshop’s Title:
"Norms of Reasoning"
Location:
Institute of Philosophy II, Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany); Room G 03/42
Date:
September 22--23, 2014
Topic:
The aim of the workshop is to discuss (epistemic) norms of reasoning from different perspectives. The purpose is to bring together traditional and formal epistemologists and cognitive scientists who focus on questions such as: To what extent are norms of reasoning normative? What are epistemic norms? Which kind of norms of reasoning (e.g. logical, probabilistic, evidentialist) hold? How should one justify such norms? How can norms guide an agent’s reasoning in science and everyday life? What is the significance of such norms for psychological investigations of human reasoning? Are psychological investigations of human reasoning relevant for philosophical debates on norms of reasoning?
