DIKE – IUSTITIA. Ideas of Justice in Ancient Philosophy and Literature.

The ninth workshop of the 'Working Group of Practical Philosophy' within the GANPH will be held May 15-16, 2015 at the Seminar für Klassische Philologie, University of Marburg.   The ‘Working Group of Practical Philosophy’ is part of the GANPH and is regularly organizing workshops on selected issues of ancient practical philosophy. The workshops aim at offering a discussion forum for ongoing projects and address both young and experienced scholars.

The ninth workshop will be dedicated to representations of and debates about justice in ancient philosophy and literature. To what extent  are "social justice" and individual moral excellence connected? What is the relationship between ancient ideals of justice and the prevailing historical, social and religious conditions? Papers on authors of Greek, Latin and late antique literature and philosophy as well as analyses with a systematicperspective are as welcome as contributions focusing on the relationship between modern philosophical trends and ancient authors and schools.

Please email the paper's title and a short abstract (up to 400 words) to [email protected] by January 10th 2015.   Travel and accommodation costs cannot be reimbursed.
