THE PRACTICE OF HISTORY   Interdisciplinary workshop, The University of Sheffield, 7th November 2014   As part of a project on the relation between historical and aesthetic understanding, the University of Sheffield is hosting a one day workshop exploring the nature of historical understanding. The programme is as follows:

  • 11.15-12:15  Benjamin Ziemann (Sheffield)--"Understanding Secularization. The Case of the West German Catholic Church 1945-1975"
  • 12:30-1:30  Phil Withington (Sheffield)--"Social History and the Challenge of Historicism"
  • 1:30-2:30  Lunch
  • 2:30-3:30  Lynn Nead (Birkbeck)--"Towards a History of Visual Atmosphere"
  • 3:30-4:00  Coffee
  • 4.00-5.00  Quentin Skinner (Queen Mary University of London)--"Belief, Action and Interpretation"
