Details

Iris Murdoch is a much loved cultural figure, but are we doing her justice? This interdisciplinary workshop will explore her philosophy and her literature, asking what role interest in her life plays in understanding her thought and her novels. The discussion will also address gender issues and the representation of women intellectuals.
The event will end with a screening of the film Iris, serving as focus to ask if Murdoch’s life as unconventional young woman, and later in life affected by Alzheimer’s, may overshadow or distort her intellectual achievement.
