Aporia Call for Papers and Essay Prize

Aporia is an established philosophy journal for undergraduates published by the University of St Andrews Philosophy Society since 2007. We publish top-quality work written by undergraduates from all over the world and are now seeking submissions for issue XIV, which will be published in April 2015.

Aporia publishes articles and book-reviews written by undergraduates and recent graduates. Submissions on any philosophical topic are welcome if they:

  1. Contain original ideas,
  2. Are broadly analytic in style,
  3. Are in English, aiming to be accessible and free of unnecessary jargon,
  4. Are under 6000 words in length (including footnotes and excluding the bibliography),
  5. Use Chicago style referencing,
  6. Include a bibliography at the end of the paper.

Aporia operates a staggered deadline for submissions:

Deadline one: January 19th 2015,

Deadline two: March 16th 2015.

At least half of the successful submissions will be chosen following the first deadline. As such, we strongly recommend early submission.

All papers will be considered for our essay prize. The best paper received by the editors will win £150, and second place will win £50, courtesy of the Philosophy Department of the University of St Andrews.

Successful submissions may be returned for corrections before final acceptance and we will need to agree a ‘License to Publish’ with all successful authors.

Submissions and queries should be sent to [email protected]. Submissions should be attached as either PDF or Word documents.

Aporia is a competitive journal and having your work published here is great way to have your ideas reach a wider audience whilst making an impressive addition to your academic CV.

We look forward to reading your submissions,

                                The Editors
