Ethical dilemmas often arise in health care regarding patients who are unable to make their own medical decisions: Who is best positioned to speak for patients, and what decisions should we allow others to make? What if the patient has no friends or close family? What if relatives disagree on the best course of action? Should there be a limit on what parents can decide for children?

The 2015 UAMS Intensive Healthcare Ethics Workshop will bring together an interdisciplinary group of scholars to share research and experiences about decision making for others. Emphasis will be placed on educating healthcare ethics committee members and others interested in healthcare practice. The workshop will include papers, posters, and small group sessions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in decision-making simulations at the UAMS Center for Simulation Education.

Professionals and students from all disciplines are invited to submit paper or poster proposals related to the workshop theme at: http://tinyurl.com/2015-UAMS-workshop-submission
