Details

In the spring of 2015 Utrecht University’s VICI-research group on ‘Human Dignity and Human Rights’, lead by Prof. Dr. Marcus Düwell, will organize a workshop entitled 'The Future of Human Rights: Foundations, Norms, Institutions', which will be held in Utrecht on 27th-29th of May.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together moral philosophers, political theorists, legal theorists and human rights scholars to debate the future of human rights.  The workshop is devoted to three themes: discussing possible normative foundations of human rights, evaluating human rights norms and scrutinizing human rights institutions.  We are especially interested in the interrelations between these fields and seek to encourage interdisciplinary discussion.

Invited speakers include amongst others Prof. Dr. Christopher McCrudden (Keynote lecture), Dr. Anna Grear, Dr. Catherine Dupre, Prof. Dr. Antoine Buyse, Prof. Dr. Steven Hopgood, Prof. Dr. Marcus Düwell, and Prof. Dr. Bert van den Brink.

All PhD-students and more senior scholars are invited to submit paper abstracts.  We will give preference to papers that combine philosophical and legal understandings of human rights.

All submissions must be sent either to [email protected] or to [email protected].  The admission deadline is the 15th of February.  The conference fee is 100 Euro’s.
