Logic, Epistemology and Metaphysics Seminar: Decisions About the Future
Arif Ahmed (University of Cambridge)

Many philosophers and most economists hold that a rational decision-maker would discount the future at a constant rate (which might be zero). The leading argument for this is that any other form of discounting is
time-inconsistent. I argue that this argument fails. I hope also to discuss what connections if any exist between certain ways of thinking about future goods and what you might call a neo-Humean view of one's own future survival.
