In the ongoing development of society, philosophers advancing in
their thinking respond to today's challenges in understanding the
world, and its progress. Innovative interpretations of the classics,
which contain the wisdom of our ancestors are helpful in dealing with
the issues and problems of contemporary societies. It is important
for scholars to investigate the significance of classical
philosophies for contemporary times and to exchange their insights
and understandings in order to provide improved direction for the
future.

For the first time, the Institute of Philosophy of the Vietnamese
Academy of Social Sciences, the Institute of Scholastic Philosophy
and Department of Philosophy of Fu Jen University and the Council for
Research in Values and Philosophy (RVP) will together hold an
international conference on the above theme. We hope it will open a
profound dialogue and discussion between among scholars and thinkers
in relation to their various cultural traditions. Papers based on the
conference theme are invited in the following areas:

1. How Western and Eastern classical philosophies influence
   contemporary thought
2. How to respond to today's issues and challenges through the
   interpretation of classical philosophies
3. Classical philosophies and their innovative interpretations in
   contemporary times
