The fourth Graduate Conference of the Vienna Forum for Analytic Philosophy, a student society for philosophical research in the analytic tradition at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Vienna, will be held 28 – 30 May 2015 on the topic of the purpose of Bayesianism in Philosophy. Besides this methodological question the focus will lie on examples of applied Bayesianism in philosophical work. The aim of this conference is to be a platform to discuss the prospects of Bayesianism in philosophy. 

We invite high-quality papers from graduate students on the following or related topics:

-         the justification of Bayesianism (e.g. Dutch Book Argument, Accuracy Argument, etc.)

-         Bayesian Epistemology

-         Subjective and Objective Bayesianism

-         the relation of beliefs and degrees of beliefs

-         the problem of the priors

-         Bayesianism and Knowledge

-         indeterminate credences

Submission information:

Deadline for submission of abstracts: February 28, 2015

Notification of acceptance: March 07, 2015

Abstracts of approximately 500 words should be in English and prepared for blind review. The author’s name, affiliation, the title of the submitted paper, and e-mail address must be included in a separate document. Files can be submitted in PDF or DOC(X) and should be uploaded at

All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Vienna Forum for Analytic Philosophy and faculty members of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Vienna. Accepted papers should be suitable for a 30-min presentation (approx. 3.000 words). It should be clear from your abstract which authors and debates your paper will address. Contributions relating to the work of the keynote speakers are particularly welcome.

The WFAP plans to publish a Special Issue of Synthese as an outcome of this conference. Participants are under no obligation to be part of this, but we would be very grateful if they would consider contributing a paper.
