Details

The Institute of Philosophy in Zagreb organizes the conference “Agency, Causality, and Free Will“, sponsored by the Croatian Science Foundation. The conference will take place in Zagreb, Croatia, from 25 to 28 January 2016. Confirmed keynote speakers include

Timothy O'Connor (Indiana University),

Neil Levy (Oxford Centre for Neuroethics), and

Saul Smilansky (University of Haifa).

The conference will explore latest contributions to the following questions: Is there an agent which can be genuinely free as a substance? What kind of causality can fit libertarian/compatibilistic/deterministic approaches to free will? Can responsibility fit into a deterministic picture or not? Are there genuinely indeterminate events which are not random and do not happen due to sheer luck? What is the nature of the agency of the will? Can luck account for freedom, after all? Other topics pertinent to free will, causality and agency are also welcome. Presentations should not exceed 30 minutes, and they will be followed by 15 minute discussions. Some contributors will be approached to submit their presentations for publication in the conference proceedings, subject to peer-review.

Please send the title and summary of your presentation, in no more than 400 words, to [email protected] by 1 October 2015. Please make sure to indicate your name, title, affiliation, and e-mail address. Acceptance letters will be sent out by 1 November 2015. The conference fee of 20 Euros can be waived for students upon request.

For any questions, please write an e-mail to [email protected].
