Details

Politics wishing to shape society in well defined ways are based on specific views concerning human beings and human life. At present, human life in the West - particularly managing its biological dimension – has become the focus of political strategies. So, what Nikolas Rose called the “molecularization of life” and the Michel Foucault’s prophecy are coming true: life is widely controlled by technologies and commodified. Some argue this is the prevailing Biopolitics.

The main aim of the XII International Symposium of University Professors organized by the Vicariate of Rome is not to criticize this reality but rather to promote a Personalist centred Biopolitics.

All proposals must have the following parts:

1.    a theoretical introduction about the concept of Biopolitcs and Personalism;

2.    a description of the proposal and its implementation;

3.    the type of partnership required for the realization of the proposal;

4.    a bibliography with the most essential references;

5.    the signature of both an Italian or foreign permanent Professor and from 2 to 5 doctoral students, graduate students or final year undergraduate students

Proposals will be selected on the basis of an abstract of no more than 1,000 words sent no later than March 30th to the contact email address below. E-mail subject line: “Proposta di Biopolitica Personalista - Abstract".

The Scientific Committee will select the first best 10 proposals and will publish them in a volume. Their representatives will be invited to orally present the works  (10 minutes) during the Bioethics Workshop (June 26th).

The deadline for submission of the full text (4,000-10,000 words, Helvetica font) of the accepted proposals is April 10th 2015. This should be sent to the contact e-mail address. If the full text is not sent by the date, the next best proposals will be selected.
