University College Dublin (UCD) Graduate Workshop:
Gender and Equality in the Academy: Gender Across Disciplines

Date: Friday May 29th 2015 09.30-17.00 (TBC)

Date and Location are currently TBC pending keynote speaker confirmation.

The UCD School of Philosophy and the UCD School of Social Justice invite submissions to our 2015 Interdisciplinary Graduate Workshop on Gender Across Disciplines. The intent of this workshop is to bring postgraduate academics together in all schools and disciplines at UCD (and further afield) to discuss ways we should be challenging our disciplines and methodologies from perspectives representing all genders. This event will be aimed at submissions and presentations by postgraduate students whilst at the same time welcoming the attendance, support, and participation of more senior academics, undergraduate students, and the general public. All genders and education/professional levels are invited and welcome on the day.

We are looking for your contribution, discussion and advice on how gender oriented norms and preferences of the past might be limiting and holding back your discipline in relation to methodology as well as other structures (including but not limited to: research styles, dissemination styles, teaching styles, and conference styles). Our aim is to interdisciplinarily share and support new ideas and ways of working and thinking which are in contrast to these current preferences or practices.

This workshop will invite speakers to present challenges to the status quo and seek supports and contributions from academics in other disciplines to help spread and share ideas of how things could be done differently. As this event is a workshop we will seek to engage in and encourage significant discussion within the confines of the 1-day timescale. We welcome all submissions from any potential graduate students, of any gender, on this topic.

Based on the nature of this workshop, to challenge the status quo on areas such as methodology, we will not prescribe a format for submissions. Therefore short submissions are welcome of any kind from postgraduate students (written, visual, presentation, video, aural, etc.) who wish to contribute to and participate in this event. Please send your proposal by Saturday 18th April 2015 to [email protected].
