CFP: The Metaphysics of Dispositions

Call for Participation - Summer School „The Metaphysics of Dispositions“ 18 - 20 August 2015 / Bonn University  

There will be a Summer School at Bonn University from18 till 20 August 2015 which adjoints a conference at Cologne University from 21 till 22 August 2015.  

Summer School - „The Metaphysics of Dispositions“ 18 - 20 August 2015 University of Bonn Organisation: Magali Roques (Topoi, Berlin) & Florian Fischer (Bonn)  

The Summer School has a teaching bloc every morning and discussion groups every afternoon. Teaching blocs will be held by Dr. Kristina Engelhard (Cologne), PD Dr. Ludger Jansen (Münster) and Dr. Stephan Schmid (Berlin).  

Dr. Kristina Engelhard (http://uk-online.uni-koeln.de/cgi-bin/show.pl/page?uni=1&i_nr=26&f_nr=4&id=777) is writing her Habilitation on the metaphysics of dispositions. She is part of the DFG (German Research Foundation) funded project „Causation / Laws / Dispositions / Explanation“ and works on a sub-project on „Dispositions, Causation and Modality" (http://www.clde.uni-koeln.de/?page_id=164).  

PD Dr. Ludger Jansen (http://www.uni-muenster.de/PhilSem/mitglieder/jansen/jansen.html) teaches Philosophy in Münster and Rostock. He has written a book on Aristotle's theory of dispositions ("Tun und Können", 2002; new editon forthcoming 2015) and works extensively on dispositions and other realisables in biomedical ontologies.  

Dr. Stephan Schmid (https://www.philosophie.hu-berlin.de/de/lehrbereiche/theorie/mitarbeiter/schmid/stephan.schmid) is particularly interested in the history of potentialities and he writes his Habilitation on the metaphysics of modality of the late scholastic philosopher Francisco Suárez. He is the co-editor of „Dispositionen“ (http://www.suhrkamp.de/buecher/dispositionen-_29692.html) Suhrkamp, 2013, which collects important essays in the debate about dispositions.  

The afternoon discussion groups will cover the papers of the following conference. We are planing to give the participants of the summer school the opportunity to give a short comment on the talks during the conference.   There will be no fee but there are only limited spots available for the summer school.
