A one day conference on the English philosopher and 'Inkling' Owen Barfield (1898-1997), author of works such as Poetic Diction (1928), Romanticism Comes of Age (1944), Saving the Appearances (1957) and Worlds Apart (1963).
Famously described as "Heidegger disguised as an English solicitor," the event is an opportunity to discuss various aspects of Barfield's life and work. The nature and significance of his thinking will be explored through philosophy, literature, literary theory, religious thought and other domains.
There will be up to four main presentations, confirmed speakers include Professor Jefferey Taylor (Denver) and Dr Mark Atherton (Oxford).
The conference will take place in the Auditorium of the college. The conference fee (inc. lunch and refreshments) is GBP 40. The day begins at 9am and finishes at 5-30pm.
