Dear colleagues!

We are glad to invite you to participate in the I annual international conference “Historical responsibility: from the myths of the past to the strategies of future”. The conference will be held 22-23 September 2016

States enter into crucial debates about their common traumatic past, global community calls to prevent forthcoming ecological catastrophe, documentary film directors make films that transforms common believes about justice and injustice – all these practices – although so different at first glance – are joined together by the problematics of historical responsibility. Historical responsibility is a complex social phenomenon that is beyond the scope of only one thematic or disciplinary dimension. It presupposes a building of specific relationships with the past or with the future, and, perhaps, bi-directional relationship building that concerns the representation of the past in the future, or the future as a projection of the past that are realized by both the individuals and a variety of communities against the backdrop of feelings of culpability, remorse, redemption or recognition of merits and are represented (specifically) in narrative, commemorative and political practices. The scopes between the individual and collective in such relationships are oftentimes vague and the legal and moral criteria of characterization of the action are problematic.
Although the phrase “historical responsibility” is widely involved and is in demand by the Mass Media and political debates, one cannot find much research into the problem in contemporary social sciences. The problematic of historical responsibility is “diffused” in the variety of adjacent disciplines. Within the concept of the Conference we invite you to regard on historical responsibility in two perspectives: theoretical and methodological that irradiates the cognitive capabilities and the limits of historical responsibility and the multiple forms historical responsibility in different branches of social knowledge; and in the perspective of social practices, the aim of which is to discern main tendencies in the development of the topic on the turn of ХХ –ХХI centuries.
