British Postgraduate Philosophy Association (BPPA) Annual Conference

University of Reading

14-16th September 2016

Keynote Speakers: David Papineau (KCL), Laurie Paul (UNC), William MacAskill (Oxford) and Brad Hooker (Reading).

Aim: To provide a unique opportunity to enable philosophy graduates throughout the UK to present and discuss their research with each other in a supportive and friendly environment. We intend to accommodate a diverse program of talks by graduate students. We will hold a number of graduate presentations over two days of the conference, in addition to our keynote speakers, and our hosting a public debate on the topic of Effective Altruism.
The last day of the conference will be a careers day which will be running workshops on the academic job market in the UK, Europe, and North America, on minorities within the profession, and more to be confirmed.

We request that 500-800 word abstracts for presentations no longer than 25 minutes, in any area of philosophy, should be sent to [email protected] no later than 1st June 2016 . Submissions should be anonymised for blind review, and should be in a standard file format, such as .pdf, .doc, etc. We invite and encourage submissions from under-represented groups.

We also invite delegates to volunteer to give brief (5 minute) responses to the presentations. If you are submitting an abstract, please also note whether you would like to respond to a presentation.

The committee gratefully acknowledges the support of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science, the Analysis Trust, the Mind Association, the Society for Applied Philosophy, and the British Society for Ethical Theory.

Kind regards,

Euan Metz
