The European Journal of Ethics is a new platform for scholars of contemporary philosophy to take part in currently debated topics of moral philosophy. Its aim is to present a broad spectrum of contemporary ethics for professional practitioners in the humanities. It will be published both in print and in electronic form.

Issue 1:

The philosophy of human enhancement belongs to the relatively new topics in philosophical studies but has been growing in popularity and importance ever since its first appearance a few decades ago. Medical and biotechnological research shows that the human body can be made subject to deliberate manipulation in order to enhance certain properties which are generally deemed desirable. Hence possibilities like extreme longevity, neuroenhancement, Designer Children, and the like play an important role in contemporary ethics.

The European Journal of Ethics invites the submission of papers that explore some topics relevant for the debate about human enhancement. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

-         Extreme Longevity: Should we live beyond 120 years? Should we want to?

-         Neuroenhancement: Improving our mental capacities

-         Enhancement of the Body: Doping and Competition

-         Designer Children: Are we allowed to choose our children’s traits?

-         Happy Pills: Mood enhancement through drugs

-         Ethics of Enhancement: Is there a duty to enhance?

All submissions should be sent to the editorial board via email: [email protected]
