Keynote Speaker: Dr Bridget Gilfillan-Upton

Title: Who they say Mary is: The characterisation of Mary Magdalene in film and Gospel

How does the reading of texts – whether privileged canonical scripture, classic philosophical and theological writing, or more broadly conceived as cultural artefacts – form and affect communities of interpretation?  The reception of ‘the text’ is a topic of inquiry in a variety of disciplines, as is engagement with texts more generally. This interdisciplinary conference aims to bring together postgraduate research about the reception of texts and the responses they generate.

Fee: £10 at the door (lunch and refreshments will be provided)
