How does the reading of texts – whether privileged canonical scripture, classic philosophical and theological writing, or more broadly conceived as cultural artefacts – form and affect communities of interpretation?  The reception of ‘the text’ is a topic of inquiry in a variety of disciplines, as is engagement with texts more generally. This interdisciplinary conference aims to bring together postgraduate research about the reception of texts and the responses they generate.

We invite short papers of no more than 30 minutes on topics such as textual hermeneutics, reception theory, patristic and biblicalressourcement, reader response theory, historiography of philosophy, radical interpretation, religious texts in politics, art, culture and spirituality, and interreligious practices such as Comparative Theology and Scriptural Reasoning.

Please submit abstracts of c250 words to [email protected] before the 8th April 2013.  Speakers will be notified of successful submission by April 15th, 2013.
