\nThe Ethics of Social Media Discourse

\nThe rise of social media platforms such as Facebook\, Twitter\, Discord\, Instagram and the like have fundamentally changed both the ways we communicate and the various rules we use to govern communication. Along with these changes comes a need to address the ethical issues that will arise from the new situations we will find ourselves in. What may be considered acceptable as social discourse for in-person communication may be inappropriate or ineffective for discourse on a social media platform. Additionally\, there may be unique ethical elements introduced in the migration of discourse to social media platforms. There are also value questions concerning whether or not the prevalence of using social media for discourse is a good thing or if this change is a concerning one. We welcome papers on topics such as these and others relating to the ethics of social media discourse.
\nPaper Submission \;
\nWe invite the submission of abstracts relevant to the topic of this year&rsquo\;s workshop&mdash\;the ethics of social media discourse. Abstracts should be between 300 and 500 words\, and should be prepared for blind review. Please send your abstract in an acceptable format (acceptable formats: .pdf\, .doc\, .docx\, .rtf) as an attachment to the following email address: bgsu.workshop@gmail.com. \;
\nPlease use the following as your subject line: &ldquo\;BGSU Workshop [your last name].&rdquo\; In the body of the e-mail\, please include the following information: \;
\n1. Paper title \;
\n2. Author&rsquo\;s name \;
\n3. Institutional affiliation and graduate program \;
\n4. Contact e-mail address and phone number \;
\n5. Statement granting permission to distribute your paper to graduate students serving on the workshop committee and to commentators \;
\nCommentators \;
\nEach paper will have a commentator. Upon acceptance\, a full paper will be required to be able to have comments given to them. Those who are not submitting a paper\, but are interested in commenting should send an email to gradphilworkshop@bgsu.edu detailing availability and areas of interest. Persons whose papers were submitted but not included in the workshop may be invited to participate as commentators. \;
