LOCATION:Poppelsdorfer Allee 28\, Bonn\, Germany\, 53115
DESCRIPTION:
This workshop is sponsored by the DFG &nbsp\;as part of the Research Unit "Inductive Metaphysics" subproject "Abductive Methodology in the Philosophy of Logic":
\n
https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/433748961
\n
This will be an hybrid event. Please register if you would like to receive the zoom link.
\n
If you have any questions\, please contact fferrari@uni-bonn.de
\n
Brief description of the workshop:&nbsp\;
\n
Logical abductivism is an influential view in the epistemology and methodology of logic\, according to which logical theories are holistically justified and assessed with respect to how well they account for relevant evidence and how well they satisfy certain theoretical virtues\, such as strength\, explanatory and unifying power\, avoidance of adhocness\, fruitfulness etc. This workshop will explore the perspectives\, advantages\, problems and limitations of an abductive methodology in logic. The following questions\, among others\, will be addressed:&nbsp\;
\n
Does logical abductivism provide a neutral method for resolving disagreement in logic\, as\, for example\, disputes between advocates of different logics or disputes between logical monists and logical pluralists?&nbsp\;
\n
What are the implications of logical abductivism for the question concerning the aprioricity and normativity of logic?&nbsp\;
\n
What are the most promising alternatives to an abductive methodology in the philosophy of logic?
