DESCRIPTION:
We are pleased to invite you to register for the two-day workshop on the topic of Concepts and Reasoning\, to take place at Ruhr University Bochum&nbsp\;on June 20th and 21st.&nbsp\;
\n
The purpose of this workshop is to stimulate the dialogue between philosophers and psychologists on foundational issues in conceptual representation and reasoning. A major aim is to discuss the role of concepts in reasoning\, with focus on how semantic similarity and typicality guide different forms of everyday inference. Other topics to be addressed in the workshop are inference and metacognition\, generics and communicative intentions\, and conceptual combination and modifier&nbsp\;effects.
\n
The workshop is organized by the Emmy Noether Research Group&nbsp\;From Perception to Belief and Back Again\, located at the Institute for Philosophy II of the Ruhr University Bochum.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;
\n

\n
&ldquo\;Concepts and Reasoning&rdquo\; Workshop
\n
June&nbsp\;20 - 21\, 2022
\n
Center for Mind &amp\; Cognition and Institute of Philosophy II\, Ruhr Universit&auml\;t Bochum
\n
Ebene 01\, Tagungsraum 4
\n
Speakers
\n
\n
Igor Douven\, IHPST-CNRS
\n
Shira Elqayam\, De Montfort University
\n
Peter G&auml\;rdenfors \, Lund University
\n
James Hampton\, City University London
\n
Martin J&ouml\;nsson\, Lund University
\n
Mat&iacute\;as Osta-V&eacute\;lez\, Ruhr University Bochum
\n
Annika Schuster\, Heinrich Heine University D&uuml\;sseldorf
\n
Corina Str&ouml\;&szlig\;ner\, Birkbeck University of London
\n
Valerie Thompson\, University&nbsp\;of&nbsp\;Saskatchewan
\n
Steven Verheyen\, Erasmus University Rotterdam
\n
\n
Preliminary programme
\n
June 20
\n

&nbsp\;10:00 &nbsp\;Steven Verheyen:&nbsp\;&ldquo\;Typicality representations in conceptual space&rdquo\;
\n
&nbsp\;11:00&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Coffee break
\n
&nbsp\;11:15 &nbsp\;Annika Schuster: &ldquo\;Typicality and probability&rdquo\;&nbsp\;
\n
&nbsp\;12:15&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Lunch
\n
&nbsp\;13:15&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Igor Douven: TBA
\n
&nbsp\;14:15&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Coffee break
\n
&nbsp\;14:30 &nbsp\;Corina Str&ouml\;&szlig\;ner: "Non-monotonic reasoning and modification"
\n
&nbsp\;15:30 &nbsp\;Coffee break
\n
&nbsp\;15:45 &nbsp\;Peter G&auml\;rdenfors: &ldquo\;Reasoning with generics as expectations&rdquo\;
\n
June 21
\n

&nbsp\;10:00 &nbsp\;James Hampton:&nbsp\;&ldquo\;Are you sure about that?
