DESCRIPTION:
The Unifesp Philosophy Graduate Conference is characterized by bringing together graduate students and researchers in order to promote debates on core themes in philosophy and broaden approaches to the problems of our time.
\n
It is in this perspective that we revisit the classic reflection about what is philosophy as the theme of our event\, in the present international edition of 2022\, but projecting onto it the perspectives of the so-called &ldquo\;global south&rdquo\;\, especially the fields of Latin American\, African and Afro-diasporic philosophies. In this sense\, we query the build up of this extensive field of knowledge\, and at the same time we inquire which voices make it alive\, from which bodies and from which places\, objective and subjective ones\, the production of concepts is situated.&nbsp\;
\n
Academic philosophy worldwide has historically inherited the European tradition and its self representations of origin and continuity from Greek antiquity on. However\, this tradition is increasingly being questioned in regard to its reach and limits in addressing concrete problems of societies like ours\, scarred by colonial divisions.
\n
In Brazil\, to position ourselves in defense of our constitutional right to a public\, free and democratic higher education is also to commit ourselves to the anti-racist struggle and to the proliferation of minority discourses. Moreover\, taking this commitment means implicating academic knowledge in the construction of a more livable world\, a challenge that calls for broad and collective participation.
\n
In short\, we ask: what world do we want? And what sort of philosophical discourse will help us build this world?
\n
In this spirit\, we invite graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from all areas and traditions in philosophy to attend and to apply for our communications sessions. This 2022 conference will take place October 24-27.
