DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>The Normative Guidance Workshop</strong></p>\n<p>To be held at the Australian National University\, October 24-25\, 2022.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>We commonly think that some normative theories\, principles\, reasons\, etc.\, can guide our actions. But what do we mean by &lsquo\;guidance&rsquo\;\, and how important is it? The Normative Guidance Workshop aims to make progress on these and related questions.</p>\n<p>Some potential topics:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>The role of guidance in a specific normative domain\; e.g.\, morality\, epistemology\, rationality\, decision theory\, etc.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>The relationship between guidance and\, e.g.\, oughts\, reasons\, fittingness relations\, options\, excuses\, responsibility\, blameworthiness\, virtue\, etc.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>The debate between normative internalists and normative externalists.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Normative ignorance and uncertainty.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>The distinction between a criterion of rightness and a decision procedure.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><strong>Invited Speakers</strong> (*So far &ndash\; we may add more)</p>\n<p>Clayton Littlejohn (Australian Catholic University/King&rsquo\;s College London)</p>\n<p>Douglas Portmore (Arizona State University)</p>\n<p>Holly Smith (Rutgers/UC Berkeley)</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>We invite you to submit an abstract (750-1000 words\, blinded) to normativeguidance@gmail.com.</p>\n<p><strong>Deadline for abstracts: September 5\, 2022.</strong></p>\n<p>Notification of acceptance: September 12\, 2022.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Workshop organizers: Pamela Robinson (ANU) and Garrett Cullity (ANU).
