DESCRIPTION:
A Symposium on&nbsp\;
The Epistemology of Resistance. Gender and Racial Oppression\, Epistemic Injustice\, and Resistant Imaginations&nbsp\;
by Jos&eacute\; Medina (Vanderbilt University)
(Oxford University Press\, 2012)&nbsp\;

In The Epistemology of Resistance\, Jos&eacute\; Medina explores several epistemic aspects of our social interactions that take place under conditions of oppression and advocates the need of epistemic resistance in democratic societies in order to overcome shortcomings and failures. Jos&eacute\; Medina insists on the need to satisfy what he calls an Imperative of Epistemic Interaction. In the book\, different issues on epistemic injustice\, epistemic vices and virtues\, epistemic authority and epistemic responsibility are discussed in detail. He pleads for a more responsible epistemic agency through interaction and resistant use of the imagination in order to repair neglect and insensitivity that underline practices of exclusion and oppression. Jos&eacute\; Medina&rsquo\;s book proposes to us a social epistemology that addresses oppression and develops an experiential and imaginative approach to our epistemology of democracy.
&nbsp\;
Main Speaker
\n
\n
Jos&eacute\; Medina (Vanderbilt University)
\n
\n
Invited Speakers
\n
\n
Linda Alcoff (CUNY Graduate Center)
\n
Charles Mills (Northwestern University)
\n
Miranda Fricker (University of Sheffield)
\n
Carlos Thiebaut (University Carlos III\, Madrid)
\n
\n
Attendance to the conference is free\, but space is limited.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;If you would like to attend to the conference (or request further information)\, please contact:&nbsp\;Jes&uacute\;s Vega Encabo: jesus(dot)vega(at)uam(dot)es

&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Organizing Committee
\n
\n
Josep E.
