DESCRIPTION:<p>The last decades have seen two paradigm shifts in theoretical philosophy. One concerns explanation and has resulted in the rehabilitation of <em>metaphysical</em> or <em>grounding explanations</em>. The other concerns quantification and has resulted in the rehabilitation of <em>higher-order quantification</em> as a useful tool in formulating metaphysical theories. This conference is concerned with a natural point of contact between these two developments: the higher-order metaphysics of ground.</p>\n<p>The conference will bring together philosophers working on ground and/or on higher-order metaphysics to explore:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>&nbsp\;the potential of higher-order resources to elucidate the notion and workings of ground (and related phenomena)</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&nbsp\;the potential of ground-theoretic resources to shed light on the metaphysical world view of higher-orderism.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Attendance is free\, but please register by email: lukas.skiba@uni-hamburg.de.</p>\n<p>The conference is funded by the <a href="https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/exzellenz/fuenf-zentrale-themen/forschung/ideen-und-risikofonds.html">Ideas and Venture Fund</a>\, as part of the <a href="https://www.bmbf.de/bmbf/de/forschung/das-wissenschaftssystem/die-exzellenzstrategie/die-exzellenzstrategie.html">Excellence Strategy</a> of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.</p>
