DESCRIPTION:
We are now inviting proposals for presentations at the workshop&nbsp\;Space\, Time and Location\, to be held in Adelaide/Tarndanya July 10&ndash\;13\, 2023. The workshop is part of the Australian Research Council funded project\,&nbsp\;Everything in its Place.
\n
The metaphysics of persistence has obvious connections with the physics of matter. The workshop&nbsp\;aims to bring together metaphysicians and philosophers of physics to explore foundational questions about spacetime\, material objects\, and the nature of locative relations between them. Speakers will explore the historical and conceptual dimensions of debates over topics including:
\n
\n
The prospects of supersubstantivalism\, and the role of objects/particles in physical theory\;
\n
The nature of location in quantum mechanics\;
\n
The fundamentality of spacetime\, and the metaphysics of space and time\;
\n
The locative turn in the metaphysics of persistence\;
\n
The ontology of field theories\;
\n
The role of spacetime in formulations of quantum mechanics.
\n
\n
This will be an in-person event\, taking place on the unceded lands of the Kaurna people.
\n
We anticipate being able to offer 2&ndash\;4&nbsp\;slots to submitted presentations. Proposed papers should be able to be presented in no more than 45 minutes. Priority will be given to early-career researchers (current graduate students and those within 5 years post-PhD). We also anticipate being able to make a contribution to travel costs within Australia for accepted presenters.&nbsp\;
\n
Please submit proposals via email to Antony Eagle at antony.eagle@adelaide.edu.au. Your email should contain the following information:
\n
\n
Title
\n
750&ndash\;1000 word detailed abstract
\n
Your contact details and institutional affiliation
\n
Details of ECR status\, if applicable.
\n
\n
Submissions are due by December 16\, 2022\, and notification of successful submissions will be provided by February 1\, 2023.
