DESCRIPTION:<p>T. S. Eliot branded the Aeneid &lsquo\;the classic of all Europe&rsquo\;\, but the importance of Virgil&rsquo\;s Georgics&nbsp\;within the European tradition has often been overlooked. This conference will provide a venue for a&nbsp\;long overdue reappraisal of the Georgics and their contribution to the history of art\, thought\, and&nbsp\;literature. We invite submissions from disciplines including but not limited to Classics and Classical&nbsp\;Reception\, Philosophy\, Ancient &nbsp\;History\, Art History\, Critical Theory\, and the History of Science. By&nbsp\;bringing together scholars from diverse fields of study\, the conference aims to foster new&nbsp\;perspectives and theoretical approaches to this fascinating text.</p>\n<p>Papers on any aspect of the Georgics are welcome\, although possible topics might include:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>The reception of Greco-Roman art and literature in the Georgics</li>\n<li>Philosophy and science in the Georgics</li>\n<li>The relationship between the Georgics and the rest of Virgil&rsquo\;s poetic output</li>\n<li>The reception of the Georgics from antiquity to the present</li>\n<li>The scholastic tradition from Servius onwards</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Papers should be approximately 30 minutes in length.
