\nAll welcome!
\nABSTRACT:
\nI propose to analyze the relationship between gender and gender terms by grappling with \;normative pluralism&mdash\;the variation of values and priorities among contexts and individuals. Normative pluralism is distinct from Dembroff&rsquo\;s (2018) ontological pluralism&mdash\;the existence of many gender kinds\, and Barnes&rsquo\; (2020) semantic variability&mdash\;the flexibility of the meaning of gender terms. I argue that unless the plurality of normative considerations is recognized and addressed\, our attempts to solve the metaphysical and semantic puzzles surrounding gender flounder. Engaging normative pluralism helps us develop fuller grasp of existing theoretical obstacles\, sharpens our alertness to potential sites of oppression\, and prepares us better in moving forward.
