SUMMARY:The Metaphysics of Normativity: Old Answers to New Questions
UID:20260409T010444Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-f5d4878dd-r5qzs
TZID:Europe/Rome
LOCATION:Via Festa del Perdono 7\, Milano\, Italy\, 20122
DESCRIPTION:
What is the nature of normativity? What is the relation between normative facts\, e.g. moral facts\, and non-normative facts\, e.g. facts about our psychology? Can normative facts be reduced to non-normative facts? Do they supervene on them? Does the non-normative ground the normative? These are all questions in the metaphysics of normativity\, and this workshop wants to discuss them with an eye to the philosophical tradition - since we believe that the philosophical tradition can not only help us to answer such questions\, but also to rethink some of the unquestioned assumptions of the relevant debates.
\n
The workshop is the second in a series of workshops on the nature of normativity hosted by the Piero Martinetti Department of Philosophy at the University of Milan\, and it will be held on May 22-23\, 2023.
\n\n
Invited Speakers
\n
Carla Bagnoli (Universit&agrave\; degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia)\, Terence Cuneo (University of Vermont)\, Kenneth Walden (Darthmouth College).
\n\n
Organizers
\n
Stefano Bacin (Universit&agrave\; degli Studi di Milano)\, Andrea Guardo (Universit&agrave\; degli Studi di Milano).
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Call for papers
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
In the workshop there will be room for some contributed talks.
