DESCRIPTION:
The Cold War in America saw a general social mobilization to fight the &ldquo\;Communist threat.&rdquo\; This mobilization affected all areas of American life. Not only the military and the CIA\, but universities\, religions\, and culture generally&mdash\;especially the mass media of films\, novels\, and television&mdash\;were reshaped in the course of it. I have traced some of the effects of this Cold War mobilization on analytical philosophy in two books (Time in the Ditch\, 2000\, and The Philosophy Scare\, 2016). Here I will discuss its implications for continental philosophy\, which are in my opinion much more dire.
