\n\n\nL&rsquo\;ensemble des ouvrages qu&rsquo\;Aristote consacre à\; la philosophie de la nature constitue de toute é\;vidence un corpus scientifique systé\;matique qui se dé\;ploie selon un ordre pré\;cis qu&rsquo\;on doit respecter lorsqu&rsquo\;on l&rsquo\;é\;tudie. Trè\;s peu nombreux\, pourtant\, sont les passages dans lesquels Aristote se prononce explicitement sur cet ordre\, de sorte que plusieurs questions restent sans ré\;ponse lorsqu&rsquo\;on essaie de comprendre les critè\;res de cette organisation. Les savants dans les mondes grec\, arabe\, hé\;braï\;que et latin\, qui ont é\;tudié\; la physique aristoté\;licienne pour la dé\;fendre\, la contredire ou la dé\;passer\, ont tous relevé\; cet aspect du systè\;me physique d&rsquo\;Aristote et tous ont d&rsquo\;abord cherché\; à\; comprendre sa cohé\;rence\, ainsi que la logique interne des parties qui le composaient. Le but de ce colloque est de retracer l&rsquo\;histoire de ce dé\;bat mené\; dans chacun de ces mondes\, dans l&rsquo\;idé\;e que son enjeu n&rsquo\;a jamais é\;té\; purement philologique\, puisque de l&rsquo\;ordre que l&rsquo\;on accordait aux divers traité\;s dé\;coulait la compré\;hension des é\;tapes de la recherche physique\, comme du projet dans son ensemble.

\n\nAristotle&rsquo\;s works on natural philosophy form a systematic body of knowledge that unfolds according to a definite order that ought to inform any study of it. And yet\, there are very few passages where Aristotle talks about this order\, so that there remain a number of important questions about the criteria governing this organization. Tellingly\, all the philosophers and scientists working in the Greek\, Arabic\, Hebrew or Latin worlds who studied Aristotle&rsquo\;s physics whether to defend\, criticize\, or go beyond it\, first sought to understand the organization and coherence of this systematic body of knowledge as well as the internal logic of its various components. The goal of this conference is to trace the history of this debate in each of these scholarly communities\, based on the assumption that this debate was never purely philological\, because any order given to the various treatises implies a definite understanding of each of the different stages of the physical inquiry and a distinct view of the project as a whole.
