\nThis year&rsquo\;s summer school will focus on the possibilities and perils of
\nneuroenhancement from the perspectives of neurosciences\, medicine and
\nphilosophy. We want to explore what could be achieved through
\nneuroenhancements in theory\, what can be done already\, and where to draw
\nthe line.
\nFaculty

\n### PD Dr. Jens Clausen
\nJens Clausen is assistant professor at the Institute for Ethics and
\nHistory in Medicine\, University of Tü\;bingen as of February 2008\,
\nmanaging director of the Clinical Ethics Committee of the University
\nHospital Tü\;bingen\, and member of the Center of Integrative Neuroscience
\n(CIN). He studied biology and philosophy and focuses his research on
\nethical and anthropological implications of modern neurosciences with
\nspecial respect to brain technological devices\, enhancement and
\nregenerative medicine.
\n### PD Dr. Markus Fendt
\nMarkus Fendt is Group Leader at the Institute of Pharmacology and
\nToxicology\, University of Magdeburg. Goal of the research in his
\nlaboratory is to understand the neural basis of innate and learned
\nemotions. To elucidate the anatomical\, physiological and pharmacological
\nprocesses that underlie emotions\, his group uses a multidisciplinary
\napproach. He held positions at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical
\nResearch in Basel\, Switzerland\, and at the Department of Animal
\nPhysiology\, University of Tü\;bingen.
\n### Dr. Dr. Andreas Franke
\nAndreas Franke works at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy\,
\nUniversity of Mainz. His research interests are neuroethics and
\nneuroenhancement. He studied medicine in Gö\;ttingen\, Bern and Essen as
\nwell as sociology in Gö\;ttingen (MA). His dissertation in medicine was on
\napoptosis (programmed cell death in the retina of chicken and mice)
\nwhile his sociological dissertation was on the topic of social resonance
\nfrom different perspectives.
\n### Stephan Schleim\, Ph.D.
\nStephan Schleim is assistant professor for Theory and History of
\nPsychology at the University of Groningen. His research interests are
\nthe theoretical foundations of the neuro-sciences and the scientific
\ncommunication thereof. He is participating in the public and academic
\ndiscourse on neuroenhancement/brain doping for almost ten years. He
\nstudied philosophy\, computer Science\, and psychology at the University
\nof Mainz and earned his Ph.D in cognitive science at the University of
\nOsnabrü\;ck.
\nHow to apply
\n------------
\nThe summer school is aimed at advanced undergraduate students and
\ngraduate students working in neurobiology\, neuroscience\, psychology\,
\nphilosophy\, and other relevant disciplines.
\nBoard and lodging (in double rooms) will be provided for. There are \;
\nno participation fees to be paid\, although traveling costs and \;
\nbeverages have to be covered by the participants.
