DESCRIPTION:<p>The 16th Conference of the International Society for Utilitarian Studies will take place on Wednesday July\, 5th to Friday\, July\, 7th\, at Luiss University Rome.</p>\n<p>In the eighteenth century\, Utilitarianism emerged as a comprehensive and timely philosophy aimed at dealing with the most urgent issues of the day. Utilitarians continue to have this aim today. ISUS 2023 will provide a venue to assess Utilitarianism's contribution to the role of philosophers in addressing urgent issues across history and in the present time.</p>\n<p>The conference will accept papers on all subjects related to the study of Utilitarianism\, as well as papers proposed for inclusion in the following panels:</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Utilitarianism and democracy (R.E. Goodin will be present at this panel)</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Utilitarianism and climate ethics</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Utilitarianism and longtermism</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Utilitarianism and global distributive justice</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Utilitarianism and war</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Utilitarianism and animal ethics</p>\n<p>&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Utilitarianism and Peter Singer</p>\n<p>Please send your c. 400-word paper proposal to gpellegrino@luiss.it. If you would like your paper to be considered for one of the above panels\, please include the name of the panel in the subject line of your email.
