DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Summer School</strong></p>\n<p>17th &ndash\; 21st July 2023 in J&uuml\;lich\, Germany &nbsp\;</p>\n<p><strong>Dual Use and Misuse of Research Results &nbsp\;</strong></p>\n<p>The Research Centre J&uuml\;lich (FZJ) will host a summer school on dual use and misuse of research results ("Dual Use research of concern (DURC)") from 17th to 21st July 2023. The event is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and organized by the Institute for Neuroscience and Medicine 7 Brain and Behavior of FZJ. &nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The summer school offers international junior researchers/scientists from different disciplines the opportunity to present their own work and research projects on the topic and to discuss them intensively with each other or with internationally renowned experts. The contributions of the participants will be complemented by lectures of experts. It is also planned to make visits to the relevant laboratories and research institutes in order to provide practical insights.</p>\n<p>All contributions to the summer school will be published in a collective volume (an anthology or a journal special issue). In addition\, a common set of recommendations will be developed for the work of research ethics committees.</p>\n<p><strong>-CALL FOR ABSTRACTS &ndash\; Deadline for submissions: 28th February 2023</strong></p>\n<p>During the summer school\, ethical\, legal\, social and political aspects of dual use and misuse of research results will be discussed. These include:&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>- Philosophy and Ethics&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>- Specific DURC-relevant research fields&nbsp\;&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>- Institutional precautions and policies&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>- Politics</p>\n<p>- Military significance</p>\n<p>- Law and regulations/legislations</p>\n<p>The number of participants is limited to 12. Travel expenses will be covered\, accommodations and full board will be provided. An expense allowance equivalent to &euro\;300 per participant will be allotted after submission of a print-ready paper. &nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Interested junior scientists/researchers are invited to apply with <strong>their abstracts</strong> (400-600 words) <strong>with a short academic CV until 28th February 2023 to DUMFE@fz-juelich.de</strong></p>\n<p><strong></strong>Conference languages are English and German\; abstracts and presentations will be accepted in both languages.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Please apply <strong>until 28th February 2023</strong> to <strong>DUMFE@fz-juelich.de&nbsp\;</strong></p>
