DESCRIPTION:
Dianoia Annual Seminar in Logic &amp\; Language

Angelika Kratzer
\n
Title:&nbsp\;How to Build a Knowledge Ascription
\n
Abstract: "Knowledge ascriptions have traditionally been taken to look as in (1) or\, maybe\, (2). I will argue that we might be well-advised to look at knowledge ascriptions like those in (3)\, which are traditionally referred to as &lsquo\;concealed questions&rsquo\;.
\n
1. They know that Wim Wenders directed &lsquo\;Wings of Desire&rsquo\;.
2. They know who directed &lsquo\;Wings of Desire&rsquo\;.
3. They know the director of &lsquo\;Wings of Desire&rsquo\;.
\n
I will argue that (3)\, rather than (1) or (2)\, points to a general recipe for how to build knowledge ascriptions of all types\, suggesting that (3)\, rather than (1) or (2)\, holds the key to the nature of knowledge ascriptions."
\n
The presentation will be an hour\, followed by an hour for discussion. The time for the event is: Wednesday 1 March\, 17:00-19:00 (New York)\;&nbsp\;Wednesday 1 March\, 22:00-24:00 (London)\;&nbsp\;Thursday 2 March\, 9:00-11:00 (Melbourne).
\n
This event&nbsp\;will be held over Zoom.
