DESCRIPTION:<p><strong><u>Program</u></strong></p>\n<p>About 15-25 participants</p>\n<p><strong><u>Program Structure</u></strong></p>\n<p>In the 1957&nbsp\;<em>Journal of Religion&nbsp\;</em>Charles Hartshorne published an important article &ldquo\;Whitehead and Berdyaev:&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Is There Tragedy in God?&rdquo\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;The Thirteenth Personalist Seminar will center around Alfred N. Whitehead and Nicolas Berdyaev\, with separate days devoted to different aspects of their work.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;The first day will introduce the group to Whitehead and Berdyaev in their contexts.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;These discussions will be led by&nbsp\;<strong>George Lucas</strong>.<strong>&nbsp\;</strong>Distinguished Chair in Ethics in the Vice Admiral James B. Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership at the U.S. Naval Academy\, Emeritus. Currently Professor of ethics and public policy at the Graduate School of Public Policy at the Naval Postgraduate School and<strong>&nbsp\;</strong><strong>Daniel Dombrowski\,&nbsp\;</strong>Professor of Philosophy University of Seattle\, Editor\,&nbsp\;<em>Process Studies</em><strong>.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;</strong>The remaining days each participant will be responsible for a specific text and/or aspect\, or present a paper on Whitehead or Berdyaev and will help lead that part of the discussion.<strong></strong></p>\n<p><strong><u>Proposals</u></strong></p>\n<p>Submit a title and brief (no more than one page) summary of your interest in the seminar&rsquo\;s subjects.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Accepted projects will receive between 60 and 90 minutes for presentation and discussion of their presentation. Proposals should be sent to:&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Dr. James McLachlan</p>\n<p>jmclachla@email.wcu.edu</p>\n<p><strong>Due Date:&nbsp\;&nbsp\;June 15</strong></p>\n<p><strong><u>Location</u></strong></p>\n<p>American Institute of Philosophical and Cultural Thought (AIPCT)\, Murphysboro\, IL (near Carbondale\, and the beautiful Shanee National Forest)&nbsp\;www.americanphilosophy.net. This area is served by Veterans Airport in Marion\, IL\, the Cape Girardea\, MO\, regional airport\, and the Paducah\, KY regional airport. One can catch commuter planes from St. Louis\, Chicago\, and Nashville. It is also possible to coordinate pick-up at the St. Louis airport for an agreed upon time on Monday morning and Friday afternoon/evening of the conference\, which begins early evening Monday and ends at noon on Friday.</p>\n<p><strong><u>Lodging &amp\; Meals</u></strong></p>\n<p>Affordable accommodations are available at the Holiday Inn Express\, within walking distance of the AIPCT. These are standard hotel rooms\, and include breakfasts\, Monday through Friday.&nbsp\;Lunch on your own at local establishments\, walking distance from AIPCT\, especially the world famous 17th&nbsp\;Street Bar-b-que.
