Call for Papers\, Sessions\, and Participants
\nfor the Summer Sessions 2023
\nof NSU study circle 6: Nordic Environmental Ethics
\n27 July &ndash\; 3 August 2023
\nPalanga\, Lithuania
\n \;
\nThe NSU Nordic Environmental Ethics (NEE) study circle is excited to announce its sixth symposium that will convene in-person in beautiful Palanga\, Lithuania\, from 27 July to 3 August. The symposium is part of Nordic Summer University&rsquo\;s week-long summer sessions\, so all participants are also able to attend other study circles&rsquo\; sessions\, and there will be joint special sessions and social gatherings during the week. The week also provides an excellent opportunity to combine the symposium and intense collegial collaboration (e.g.\, research papers\, funding applications\, research plans etc.)
\nWe welcome abstract submissions and session proposals on any topic in environmental ethics or normatively oriented environmental social sciences by Nordic and Baltic researchers or in the Nordic and Baltic context. As a special theme\, we especially welcome contributions (abstracts or session proposals) pertaining to the theme of Climate Change and Welfare. Abstracts concern conventional conference presentations\; session proposals can include any other proposals for 60&ndash\;90-minute sessions with an academically interesting content such as roundtables\, mini-workshops\, or one-off reading circles.
\nIn addition to conference sessions (all paper presentations will be organized within 4 days of the whole week)\, the program can include roundtables\, writing workshops\, discussion on the future of Nordic Environmental Ethics Network\, and social gatherings. The overall purpose of the Nordic Environmental Ethics NSU study circle is to bring together scholars and people interested in environmental ethics in the Nordic-Baltic context. Additionally\, participants can join the sessions of other NSU study circles. We also welcome student participants\, who can get study credits for participating\, as the week also serves as a summer school.
\nPlease submit your abstract (300-500 words) or a session proposal via email to Teea Kortetmä\;ki teea.t.kortetmaki[at]jyu.fi by April 30\, 2023. Decisions will be announced by May 7\, 2023. If you would like to attend the symposium without presenting a paper (e.g.\, as a summer school)\, please email a short Bio. A certificate of participation can be given in both cases for travel allowance eligibility purposes.
\nThe costs of the summer session are as follows:
\n- single rooms for 575 euros per person.
\n- double/twin rooms for 425 euros per person.
\n- family rooms for 950 euros (family of 4).
\n- scholarship and grant recipient in a twin room: 175 euros. (Please indicate your interest and need for a scholarship in the email you send!)
\nThe cost includes accommodation for the week\, 3 meals and 2 coffee breaks a day\, and access to the full NSU program during the summer session. Participation in the summer session requires NSU membership\, and the cost also includes NSU membership. If you already paid the membership fee when you took part in a winter symposium in 2023\, your membership is already covered for the whole year 2023. Please let the coordinators know so you can receive a discount code to deduct 25 euros from your payment.
