SUMMARY:A Social Epistemology of Social Media
UID:20260408T040747Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-f5d4878dd-r5qzs
TZID:Europe/Berlin
LOCATION:Straße des 17. Juni 135\, 10623 Berlin\, Berlin\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:
Social media has had a strong impact on our everyday epistemic behavior. Social media has created new epistemic environments and allowed for the creation of novel speech acts such as the liking or sharing of content online (e.g. retweets). Because of the relative novelty of social media\, its effects on our everyday epistemic behavior have not yet been explored in detail. This workshop is devoted to mapping out a social epistemology of social media. It will address both descriptive questions about social media (such as how technological innovations online impact us) as well as normative questions (regarding the norms of novel speech acts or the impact of social media on questions of epistemic injustice). The workshop also aims at highlighting both the positive and the negative impact of social media when it comes to sharing knowledge\, the spread of fake news and misinformation\, and its impact on questions of epistemic injustice.
\n
The workshop is divided into two separate parts taking place on the 1st &amp\; 2nd of June (Part I) and the 22nd &amp\; 23rd of June (Part II). Attendance is free and possible both in-person and online. However\, we do ask you to register by writing an e-mail to fammartino(at)tu-berlin.de Please also note if you would like to join the conference dinner on Thursday evening. Any questions about the workshop can be sent to fammartino(at)tu-berlin.de
\n
Please state explicitly in your registration if you would like to attend only one part of the workshop or both.
