SUMMARY:Trinity Workshop on Moral Status
UID:20260617T163653Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-6b96c54f56-bljdq
TZID:Europe/Dublin
LOCATION:Trinity Business School\, Dublin\, Ireland
DESCRIPTION:
Much has been written on moral status the past few decades\, and there's an increasing emphasis on questions surrounding marginal cases (e.g.\, animals\, artificial beings). The aim of this preread workshop is to bring together scholars engaged in different facets of this topic to discuss and get feedback on new ideas from others deeply engaged in the topic.
\n
This is a call for abstracts to add an additional 2-3 speakers to an already stellar line-up of invited speakers. Anyone may submit\, but the ambition is to favor submissions by junior scholars.&nbsp\;
\n
Abstracts of 500 words or less should be submitted to silverk@tcd.ie by (or on) July 1st. Due to the short amount time before the conference itself\, a decision will be made by July 10th. If accepted\, a complete draft should be submitted by August 10th.
\n
While complete costs cannot be covered\, there will be bursaries for up to &euro\;500.
\n
The abstracts can be on any topic related to moral status. This may involve work around the grounds of moral status\, or equality/inequality of status\, or the status of marginal agents\, etc. Work on the attribution of rights could also be a good fit.
\n
This workshop is the first in a series of five as a part of the ERC funded project 'Corporate Moral Progress' (with Kenneth Silver as the PI). While the project itself is centrally within business ethics\, and the workshop will take place in the Trinity Business School\, the workshop is a broader attempt to push the frontiers of the field on moral status and to find ways to bring that work to bear on the question of corporate personhood.
